Strange World Files retells real cases that were never fully closed: disappearances, cold cases, disasters and unexplained events. This page explains how each file is researched, written and illustrated, and how to tell us when we get something wrong.
Who makes these files
Strange World Files is a small independent project run from South Korea by one editor. It is not affiliated with any police force, court, family or news organisation, and no one pays us to cover a case.
How we research a case
- Every file starts with a facts sheet. Each fact is checked against a source we have opened ourselves, and every source is listed at the end of the file.
- We prefer primary records: court opinions, official reports, police statements, and newspaper reports written at the time.
- When sources disagree on a date, a number or a name, we say so in a section called “Where the records disagree” rather than quietly picking one.
- Details that rest on a single secondary source are written with that source named. Anything we could not confirm is labelled as unconfirmed.
- We do not present theories as facts. Where a case is unsolved, we say what is known, what is claimed, and who claims it.
How we write about victims and families
- No gore. We describe what happened, not injuries in detail.
- We do not name private people, such as surviving children or witnesses, when the original sources did not.
- People convicted in court are written about as convicted. People who were never charged are not called guilty.
How we use AI
- Illustrations: every illustration on this site is AI-generated from a written scene description based on the documented record. They are artistic interpretations, never photographs. Faces are deliberately hidden, and no illustration is a likeness of a real person.
- Narration: the audio versions of our files are read by an AI voice.
- Writing: research notes and drafts are prepared with AI assistance. Every fact in a published file is checked against the listed sources by the editor before it goes live.
Corrections and updates
If you spot an error, or you have a better source, please tell us through the contact page. We check every report. When we correct a fact or update a case with new developments, we change the file and note the date of the update.
If a case on this site involves you or your family and you would like something reviewed, please contact us. We will read your message with care.
